Cosmetic Dental Bonding
Cosmetic dentistry employs dental bonding as a non-invasive technique to address visible flaws or damage on teeth. This method involves applying a composite resin, matched to the color of your tooth, directly onto the tooth surface to repair chips, cracks, discoloration, and gaps. The outcome? A flawless and natural-looking smile that's almost instantaneous! Cosmetic bonding offers a fantastic way to enhance your smile without excessively altering your natural tooth structure. With our skilled cosmetic dentist, Lawrence Wong, DMD, you can expect customized and rejuvenated smiles using various dental bonding techniques that yield beautiful results. Compared to porcelain veneers or dental crowns, dental bonding provides additional benefits while still delivering impressive aesthetic outcomes.
Reasons for cosmetic bonding:
- Closing spaces or gaps
- Fixing chipped teeth
- Fixing decayed teeth (teeth with cavities)
- Lengthening uneven teeth
- Protecting roots exposed by receding gums
- Restoring badly discolored teeth
When compared to other dental procedures like porcelain veneers and crowns, cosmetic bonding will save most if not all of your natural tooth structure. In one visit alone you can see a dramatic improvement in the aesthetics of your teeth - it's almost instantaneous! Not only that, but this type of procedure is far more affordable than other aesthetic dentistry techniques.
What does dental bonding involve?
First, Dr. Wong will isolate the relevant teeth and then use a chemical etching process to prepare their surface for bonding. Next, a conditioning liquid will be applied to make the tooth's surface more receptive to the bonding agent by creating micro-porosities. This liquid weakens the surface so that the bonding agent can form a strong bond.
Once we apply the bonding resin, we set multiple layers of tooth-colored composite in place. We use a specialized light to shape and harden the material. After it sets, we will smooth, buff, and polish the bonded areas so that they will blend in naturally with your other teeth.
